Car Washes

Car Washes

I'm personally one of those people that would (if I could) spend an entire day cleaning my car, and think it was time well spent. Some people, like my wife, thinks its ridiculous. You can look at her car and tell.

A lot of people are concerned about rust and such when they come here. I've never had a problem. For my first couple years here I drove a GMC Yukon, never developed a speck of rust. I just wash it once a week ( i know some of you cringe when you think about it) and have it waxed maybe once a quarter.

There are a few options on Guam for taking care of your car.

First, there are the several fund-raiser type car washes you'll pass by on any given weekend. Usually they're just asking for a small donation to help support something or another, or some families have car washes for extra money. They do an ok job if you're not too particular, usually I drop them $10.00.

Secondly, are the drive-thru car washes at a few of the gas stations that just beat the dirt off your car. If you use these, please leave my blog immediately.

Third, are the commercial car washes. There are three or four on Island that will do a pretty good job for between $25 and $40.00. Since this is my blog, I'll endorse my favorite, Pat's Window Tinting on Marine Corps Drive in Tamuning. Pat's won my business a long time ago. I went there one day, I guess after stopping at the ATM machine, and dropped my withdrawl between the seat and console. Didn't know it, and I never would have known, until one of the guys from Pat's brought it to me. They do a great wash job, excellent window tint, and several other services there for a reasonable price, $25.00 for a wash & vacuum while you wait. Any place where you see the owner out in the trenches must have it going on.

Another option is Guam's one and only self serve car wash. This is the one I most often use, since I like to do it myself. If you're lucky to have access to the Navy Base, it's located right behind the NEX, more or less.

So there you have it, where to take care of your car on Guam.
