Guam Home Schooling

We get a fair number of inquiries asking for information about Guam's public and private schools. Certainly this is a big factor in making the decision to bring your family to Guam if you have school age children.

It's no secret, Guam's public schools leave a lot to be desired. The facilities themselves are usually pretty run down. A couple years ago, the Guam Attorney General put together a task force to determine if Guam's public schools are even safe for occupancy. The findings were pretty grim. Several schools were shut down and their students shuttled to other schools while theirs was being brought up to code. This was probably a wise move by the Attorney General, because I drew a lot of attention to the school system here. Superintendants were being changed every few months and nothing was really being accomplished. That was a couple years ago.

While some improvements have been made, there seems to be a long way to go, at least according to news reports on the subject. Probably the best way to keep up to speed on what's happening in Guam's public schools is to read our local newspaper, the Pacific Daily News.
