GTA Teleguam

Normally I wouldn't speak out against a local business but I've spent some time and justified this to myself. It didn't really take that long.

I'm all about making a profit and serving my customers. Sure, things don't always work out and I've been "cross ways" with a few people since I started my business and have learned some tough lessons. What I saw yesterday pushed me over the top and I'm going to speak my mind. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

Was working with a young Airman yesterday. Actually he's my wife's client that's looking for a place to live. Very squared away young man that left me pretty impressed with him as a person. My wife later told me that in their small talk driving around looking at potential homes, that this guy had a $32,000.00+ phone bill from Guam Telephone Authority. After she told me the story, I didn't believe it. So I called him.

Apparently, he was sent to Japan on a Tsunami relief mission. While there, someway, somehow, he racked up a $32,000+ phone bill from his cellular provider, GTA. He sent me a copy of the bill and, it appears to me, he didn't make many phone calls. The charges were the result of his smart phone downloading email. I live on my blackberry and I know all about that. In fact, my email notification is the cash-register "ka-ching" sound to motivate me to check my email immediately when I receive it. So email comes in, texts come in, but he only sent a few from what I can deduce from reviewing the bill. $32,000.00. It's more than unbelievable. Usually when I hear something so outrageous, so far left of center, there's more to it than meets the eye. But in this case it doesn't appear that way at all. I've seen the bill. I travel a bit, and I expect my phone bill to be a little higher for it, and it is. $32,000.00 is well, you know what I mean.

So far when he's approached GTA, they 've only asked him how he wants to pay. No explanation, just give them the money. "Other roaming charges may apply" it's in the contract. This is not an isolated incident, base legal commented to him that there is someone with a higher bill than him.

So think carefully people. And tell all your friends.
