With Craigslist's growing popularity on the island, and it's increased use by real estate agents, I wanted make a quick post about something that happened over the weekend.

I'm sure this isn't anything that hasn't happened before, and those of you in the mainland may have already had some experience with it, but this is the first time I know of that someone has taken information from a legitimate Craigslist advertisement and re-posted it as their own.

This isn't to discourage use of Craigslist, it's to encourage smart use of it. As with most things in life, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This house is still available by the way…. but the asking price is $4400 :). But everything is negotiable.

I did contact the person who advertised it, and not surprisingly, another scam out of Africa. I'm sure if I took the time to exchange another email or two there would have been a Gmail Response application fee or something he'd want me to send him via Western Union.

So be careful what you believe on Craigslist. And remember, using a real estate agent (preferably us :) ) doesn't cost you anything.
