North Korea Threat to Guam

I've got four emails in the last week about the threats North Korea has made to the Island of Guam, so I thought I'd put a little blurb here and maybe put things in a little perspective from at least my point of view.

The news has be riddled with stories about the threat of a potential North Korea missile threat to the island. In fact, yesterday it was a CNN headline story. My wife's family has been calling asking when we're going to evacuate, and I've heard a few people that had general concern in their voice when expressing their fears about all the hype over the past few weeks.

So I'm sure there are one or two people that are getting ready to head this way that might have some concerns.

I'm not an authority on North Korea and it's politics, but I have been studying this strange country for about a year now. Basically what I mean by that is that I've actively sought information on the internet and watched every documentary I could find on this strange place. And, in fact, I just came back from South Korea.

I can tell you that in South Korea, at least everywhere we were, it was business as usual. Even on the military base where we were staying (Dragon Hill Lodge rocks by the way). As far north as the DMZ, everything seemed normal. Tours were still going on in the DMZ and I even "sort of" got to stand just across the border in North Korea.

There was one gentleman on our tour that had actually been in North Korea and his point of view went something like this. North Korea knows, that should they take aggressive action towards South Korea and it's allies, that there probably won't be a North Korea any longer. And he also said, and I've heard this from many, many people, that have been there, that the military equipment he saw during his time was mostly from the 1950's.

So I don't expect to see the warm glow of the big Portobello anytime soon.
